DeeJay Random cut his teeth in the competition world and brings that influence to his sets. Having been in the game for nearly 20 years, his experience, knowledge and originality are second to none (some of the competitions he is asked to judge reflect this). Easily at home playing jazz/funk/original breakbeats as he is hip hop, he can rock a party or kut records to pieces! His wholly original style of playing is in keeping with the way that hip-hop sets have been played since Kool Herc, Bambaataa and Jazzy Jay etc kicked it off all those years ago....block party style. Funk, hip hop, jazz, breakbeats are all thrown together in a sensible way to ensure there is a piece of the pie for EVERYONE. He has cut with and supported some of the biggest names in the game including Jazzy Jeff, The Jungle Brothers, Jazzy Jay, Grand wizard Theodore, Dj Noize and Supernatural, The Enforcers, The Scratch Perverts, Mixologists, P-Trix, Lootpack, J-Zone, The Beat Junkies, Gunkhole (d-styles etc) and played in some of the biggest and best venues in the country including The Jazz cafe, The Tate modern, The Empire ballroom, Guilfest, Mass, Turnmills as well as residencies for the Fez club and Squarebar and spreading hip hop madness all over Europe including Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Germany......the list goes on.....
As well as an accomplished dj and turntablist, he also plays turntables with the band "Don Piranha" (Guilfest, Ambient picnic, Mass, Jazz cafe), cutting beats, vocals , percussion etc. a headlong, crashing funk set that moves away from the traditional "scratching with the band set-up". DeeJay Random has already appeared on "pubs, drunks and hip hop" by Diversion Tactics ("Roll Call" and "pubs, drunks and hip hop"), "madame swish" by Labrat, "serious" by Verb T and Dr zygote and "eye to eye" by The Procryptix. DeeJay Random has worked in some of the most prestigious musical colleges in the country, as a masterclass lecturer and consultant, including the Academy of contemporary music (Vestax DJ academy) and is currently working with Urban development, based in Newham, East London, lookahead housing and care, Surrey borough council, woking youth centre, stanwell youth centre, staines council and various councils and local authorities putting on dj/scratching workshops.
